BBQ-Licious Sauces
Our Story
My name is Joseph, and I was born into a typical Portuguese & Italian family in New England. My mom and dad got divorced, and my mom ended up raising five boys. My mom had a limited income working for an insurance agency. When it came time for meal preparation, she'd put together whatever she could to take care of her boys. This meant eating things that I wasn't too fond of.
Portuguese and Italians aren't particularly known for being BBQ pitmasters! Lol! My mom didn't make the greatest BBQ. She used a particular "famous" brand back in the '70s that I absolutely detested! One day, after playing outside with my friends, I came home for supper. As always, I was curious about what was being made. And, of course, I was very picky and always found something to complain about. After all, she was about to infiltrate my palate!
Well, on this particular "BBQ sauce" day, as I inquired, I saw the brand she was using. I complained, "Not again! I hate that sauce!" Mom said, "Well, if you don't like it, make your own." I literally took that ingrained saying with me as I entered the military and served in the United States Air Force. After my training, getting settled into my career, finding my wife, and raising a family, I quickly found that, being of Italian and Portuguese descent, I had my own cheering section! I was naturally dubbed "the cook of the family."
Then mom's infamous saying came to pass, "Well, if you don't like it, make your own." These words haunted me when I saw the same brand staring at me in our military commissary. I couldn't believe it! I was being chased by the very brand I hate, all the way to England!Aaaaayyyyy!!!!
That's when I jumped into action and decided to take matters into my own hands. I said, "Ok, Mom, so that's the way it's going to be, aaaay?" I will make my own sauce!" With a little bit of this, and a little bit of that, some of this, and some of that. What do I like? What do I dislike? And Eureka!!!! Nature's Yum was born. Seeing the looks on my friend's faces, hearing the finger-licking, lip-smacking sounds, and even words like "brilliant, marvelous, amazing, spectacular, breathtaking (from my RAF UK friends from the local church) made me pause. I couldn't believe how much people liked its simplicity.
I really didn't think it was such a big deal. I just wanted good BBQ sauce. I didn't know anything about BBQ sauce or how big it is in the US. Kansas, Texas, Georgia, North & South Carolina, NY, and CA. I had no idea. I just wanted something I could like and be able to share with friends and family.
It was because of these precious family members and dear friends that I was prompted to manufacture Nature's Yum®, which is a simple… pure… natural… premium-quality BBQ sauce. Gilbert Approved! Enjoy!
